Tell us a little about yourself and where you call home.
Hi, my name is Tate. I’m a mama of three and we live in Queensland, Australia.
What does the ocean mean to you, and how does it shape your daily life?
I grew up on the water, so I knew when I was older I’d never be too far from it. It’s grounding, it’s cleansing, it’s my happy place.
We almost always either start or end the day down at the beach for a walk or a swim, and it’s honestly a game changer for everyone’s mood.
Describe your ideal coastal day from sunrise to sunset.
At the moment it’s summer, so an icy cold coffee smoothie to start is a winner. Then it’s usually load up and head to the beach before it gets too hot.
We’ll spend a few hours down there, then head home for lunch and a swim in the pool, then some quiet time / down time. After that it’s either dinner at home and then down the beach again, or we take dinner to the beach.
What’s your favourite beach ritual or tradition?
Ooh, this one is actually new to me. I’ve been reading a book about seashells and the power of them, so I’m really tuning into that and learning more practices to add into our daily life.
How would you describe your personal style, and how does coastal living influence it?
Comfort first - as a mum of three, it has to be comfortable, but still put together (as a little gift to myself) so I feel good when I start the day.
I’m definitely drawn to a more summer style, something that can take you from brunch to the beach, or beach to the oyster bar.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Husband and kids (that’s a given!). Music. And it has to be the beach, right?
What’s the most treasured memory you’ve made by the water?
Hands down, seeing all three of our kids love the water as much as my husband and I do. It’s become their happy place, the place we go for fun, for quiet time, for nature exploring… for everything.
How do you balance motherhood, creativity, and the call of the coast?
Oh gosh - I think realising and welcoming the fact that you just can’t do it all is the biggest thing.
Motherhood comes first no matter what. My creative outlet is our IG page. I love creating and sharing - but everything we do with the kids is filled with creativity too: art, exploration, nature play, school, adventures… every part of it is creating, and we all love it.
We’ve done the whole “not living close to water” thing for a short period of time, and it definitely wasn’t for us. The water is always calling us.
What makes a piece of clothing worth investing in for you?
Quality, comfort, and versatility. Can it be worn a few different ways? Does it go with other pieces? Can you dress it up or dress it down?
Those are the first things that come to mind.
If you could wander to any coastal destination tomorrow, where would you go and why?
I think I’d love to do Croatia, and the coastline along southeast Europe.
